Mackinac Island

bike rental

If you are staying at Mission Point, you can rent bikes directly though them. Ask the hotel concierge for details.

If you are staying elsewhere, or find yourself downtown and wanting to rent a bike, we recommend Mackinac Island Bike Shop or Mackinac Cycle Bike Rental on main street (directly next to the ferry port). But there are several options and they are all great, you can't go wrong!

taxi services

If you would like a horse taxi ride, ask your hotel concierge or call 906-847-3323. These are limited, so plan accordingly. We recommend calling a day in advance if you know when you will need a ride.

things to do

  • Our favorite activity: bike around the island. It is 8 miles around, but very flat and leisurely. You will find yourself stopping every 20 minutes to take in the views. There is currently construction on the main road so you won't make it all the way around. You can wear your suit and stop for a dip several places around the island! Hint: stop by Doud's on Main and grab a six pack for the ride.
  • Hike to Sunset Rock
  • Take the stairs to the West Bluff
  • Hike to Anne's Tablet
  • Mission Point Front Lawn - Grab a drink and sit in the chairs in the lawn watching the boats (our wedding is Yacht Weekend on the Island!)
  • Hike Arch Rock - climb the stairs for breathtaking views of the water. You can stop here on your bike ride around the island, as a 30 minute detour.
  • Golf: there are three courses on the island. Ask your hotel concierge to schedule a tee time.
  • Shop! Main street is packed with cute shops. Little Luxuries is my favorite. Another popular one is My Front Porch.
  • Putt Putt at Mission Point
  • Horse Carriage Tour of the island (leave from Main Street) - Mackinac Island Carriage Tours
  • Rent horses and hire a guide for a tour of the island at Cindy's Riding Stables
  • Rent Kayaks through the Mission Point concierge
  • The Grand Hotel is a must see during your stay. You can go to one of their several dining options, have a drink on the porch, tour the gardens, etc. Please check their website for entrance fee and dress code.
  • Tour Fort Mackinac - you will be able to wander the grounds during our welcome party, but if you would like to spend significant amounts of time touring, it is fascinating and the views are amazing!

places to eat

We recommend making dinner reservations if you will be on the Island Friday or Saturday night!
  • Our personal favorite is the Pink Pony deck. It's casual with views of the water. It's located behind the Chippewah hotel, bypass the hostess stand inside and walk out back for patio seating and bar.
  • Good Day Cafe + Coffee Bar
  • Boxwood Coffee Shop - located in the lower level of Mission Point, a great location for coffee + to go breakfast and lunch
  • Bistro on the Green - casual dining at the Mission Point Resort
  • Round Island Bar - dining at the Mission Point resort (hint: great spot for an evening cocktail)
  • FUDGE: fudge is a staple of Mackinac Island. There are tons of shops, we like JoAnns or Murdochs
  • The Gate House has amazing cocktails and food and is located right outside the Grand Hotel grounds.
  • Sushi Grand
  • Jockey Club and Cupola Bar at the Grand Hotel are other great options onsite. They have other dining available as well, check their website for details. Grab a drink on the porch before dinner! (Dress code enforced at many of the Grand Hotel restaurants- check when booking reservations)
  • The Woods Restaurant
  • The Carriage House is a fancier dinner option, it is located in Hotel Iroquois and has great fresh fish + lake views. A personal favorite for a nice dinner!
  • The Watercolor Cafe is a beautiful place to have breakfast or lunch on the water. Lots of morning coffee options!
  • Kingston Kitchen - a popular Jamaican Restaurant right downtown
