GETTING THERE:

If you are unfamiliar with Mackinac Island, there are no cars on the island. You will arrive by ferry and get around the island by horse carriage and biking. Although, most all our events are walking distance too. Check out the "Mackinac Island" tab for more on this. See below for info on airports, ferry service, and hotels on the island.

AIRPORTS

PLN - Pellston Regional Airport:
The closest airport to the island, about 15 minutes from the Mackinaw City ferry docks. You can arrange transportation from PLN to the ferry through Mackinaw Shuttle.
https://mackinawshuttle.com/
If you plan to fly into this airport, we encourage you to book your flights ASAP, as there are only a few Delta Connection flights in each day. Flights arrive at 130PM and 930PM daily, if you are flying in on Friday, we recommend you don't take the later flight, as you will miss the last ferry and need to take a private charter. The ferry runs later on Saturdays.

TVC - Traverse City Airport
About 1.5 hours from the Mackinaw City ferry docks. You can arrange transportation from the airport to the ferry docks through Mackinaw Shuttle.

CIU - Chippewa International Airport
Another regional airport, located in the upper peninsula of MI, about 45 minutes from the ferry. If you fly into this airport, you will take the ferry from St Ignace to Mackinac Island. You can rent a car or arrange a car service to get to the ferry docks.

DTW - Detroit Metro Airport:
3.5 hours drive to the Mackinaw City ferry docks. If you fly into DTW and rent a car, you can park your car at the ferry for $5/day.

GRR - Grand Rapids International Airport:
3.5 hours drive to the Mackinaw City ferry docks. If you fly into GRR and rent a car, you can park your car at the ferry for $5/day.

FERRY

The last ferry departs from Mackinaw City to the island at 930 PM on Friday and 1030 PM on Saturday. Please book flights accordingly! Please also keep in mind when booking return flights, the first ferry off the island is at 8AM. (Private charters are available to the island if you can't make it to the ferry by this time, please reach out to us with questions on this). Their schedule is listed online - please note they are operating on a limited basis due to COVID but should return to regular scheduling by next summer. See website link below.

There are two ferry services going to and from the island, Sheplers and Star Line. We encourage our guests to use Sheplers, mention the Ethington Tranter wedding at the ticket counter for our group rate. Tickets do not need to be purchased ahead of time. You can purchase when you arrive to the ferry docks. You NEED your ferry ticket to get back at the end of the weekend, so hold on to the ticket stub!

When you board the ferry, a Sheplers crew member will take your bag and bring it directly to Mission Point and hold it for you until you check in. If you are staying elsewhere, ask the baggage crew before boarding if your accommodations handle luggage or if you should carry yours on.

(There are two cities the ferry leaves from Mackinaw City and St Ignace, the only people that will leave from the St Ignace port are those flying into CIU)

Once you arrive on the island, you can walk to your hotel (Mission Point is about 10 minutes away), wait for your hotels carriage taxi (Mission Point's carriage will be waiting out front, check with your accommodations on this), or what we recommend: turn right on Main Street and walk 3 minutes to the Pink Pony, sip a Mackinac Mule and cheers to wedding weekend!

A Quick Note:

Mackinac Island is extremely popular during the summer and due to the small size of the island, reservations go quickly. We strongly encourage our guests to book rooms at least 9 months out to ensure a spot. There is also a yacht race the weekend of our wedding, so several resorts will have 4 night minimums (Mission Point is a 2 night minimum). You may also notice that booking a hotel on Mackinac Island is rather traditional, and many places will require you call to book rather than booking online.

If you choose to stay somewhere else not listed here, please ensure it is located ON the island. Mackinaw City is NOT the same as Mackinac Island. You will want to be on the island, as the last ferry off the island leaves at 9PM.

Please reach out to us with any questions regarding reservations and travel.

The Mission Point Resort

We recommend our wedding guests stay here, as you will be walking distance to all our events. The Mission Point Resort has restaurants, bike rental, child care, and more amenities all on site. See website for room options. There is no difference between the two lodges within the resort, they are no more than a 5 minute walk apart. Our room rate is good several days on either side of our wedding date, however if you're booking longer than Saturday-Monday, you will need to call and speak to reservations to book, mention the Ethington Wedding to be sure you get your 10% off. Call 231-715-4910.
If you are booking just Saturday-Monday you can book on their website, be sure to use our block code: 1106346. Or use the link below:
